Fort Lewis is home of I Corps, the 4th ROTC Region Headquarters, Madigan Army Medical Center, and other tenant and support units. Ft. Lewis is the largest employer in Pierce County with 20,000 soldiers on the payroll. In addition, Ft. Lewis is ranked as the fourth largest employer in the state. Ft. Lewis services 65,000 military dependents, civilians and retirees. The combined payroll of military, civilian and retirees is $1.2 billion. McChord AFBC-17 Practicing Aircraft Carrier Operations
McChord AFB is home to the 62nd Airlift Wing and its Air Force Reserve counterpart, the 446th Airlift Wing. Operating the C-17 Transport Aircraft, these units continually train to be able to deploy enormous numbers of troops and huge amounts of equipment to any problem area in the world on very short notice. The 62nd and 446th also support humanitarian airlift efforts, as well as provide air movement for other armed services during training missions, and is also home to the Western Air Defense Sector. McChord's more than 9,400 active, reserve and civilian personnel earn a combined annual payroll in excess of 200 million. East OlympiaOlympia is the Capital of Washington State, and is located at the tip of the Puget Sound about 60 miles south of Seattle, Washington and 110 miles north of Portland, Oregon. Lacey, WA

DuPont, WA

Dupont City HallThe Village of DuPont, WA is located between Tacoma and Olympia, Washington close to Fort Lewis Army Base and McChord Air Force Base. Three thousand citizens call DuPont home as well as several small to large businesses. Northwest Landing's 3,000 acres combined with the Historic DuPont Village provides 3,755 acres in a mixed-use real estate plan that balances residential, business, and open space/parks.

Since 1994, there have been 857 housing units built. Residential real estate growth has averaged approximately 125 units per year, however that average was influenced by a gradual start in the first few years of development. The overall density for the first neighborhood of development, Palisade Village, is six units per acre. Palisade Village contains a variety of lot sizes, ranging from “cottage lots” of approximately 2,100 square feet which front on shared open space to larger lots of 12,000-14,000 square feet. Most lots however are approximately 5,000 square feet. The second neighborhood to be developed, Yehle Park Village, was approved in 1997 and modified in 1999. The approvals were for 905 units, resulting in an overall projected density of 5.6 units per acre. The character of development, housing style and mix, are similar to that of Palisade Village.

Tumwater, WA

This historical city is nestled on the southern tip of Puget Sound, surrounded in the distance by the Olympic Mountains and the majestic site of a snow-capped Mount Rainier. Located less than a 5 minute drive south of the state capital, Olympia, Tumwater is a friendly community of approximately 13,000 residents.

The name Tumwater originated from an Indian word, “tum-chuck,” meaning noisy water. The powerful, “noisy” water can be found at the lower falls of the DesChutes River, the site of the first Tumwater settlement. Centrally located on Interstate-5, Tumwater is a perfect launching point to visit the Puget Sound, Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens, the Pacific Ocean beaches, and the Olympic Peninsula and rain forest. The city itself is a bustling center of activity. It boasts 10 parks and playgrounds, a golfing range and municipal golf course, an athletic club, and a new 14,000-square foot library. The Old Town Center is a full-service community resource center offering a wide range for free and low-cost recreational programs. Major employing industries in Tumwater include public administration and educational, health and social services. Students grades K-12 are served by the Tumwater School District. Residents who wish to pursue a degree in higher education find themselves in proximity to several colleges and universities.
